For the most part, you can rely on the title of a article to give you a glimps of the material to be read. The journal chosen to be reviewed," Young Peoples Ghost Stories in Hing Kong", may lead one to believe the story dealt with paranormal experiences, but fell short of that. The article is more a study of culture and rites of passage. The story simply educates the reader of the cultural aspects of Chinese culture and the society rules on which they rely. Ghost stories are passed down over the generations but some have secret meanings.
The Chinese culture use stories of this nature to educate their youth of dangers in the world outside of the nuturing home lives encountered by the younger generation. These stories may seem quite calm in comparison to the stories told to Americans but each hide a nugget of "common sense" in every one. The stories are used to guide the young adults toward a fruitful life and can inflect some insight to the cultural beliefs of the older generation.
All in all, the stories have a fun and sometimes fearful tone but each story is just a generational study of culture.
